Stone Design Ships PStill 2.5
with PDF redistillation, PDF chaining
N-pages Up and New Engine

San Francisco January 6, 2003 - Stone Design today shipped a new version of PStill™, its PostScript® to Portable Document Format (PDF) conversion program. New features include the ability to combine multiple PS, PDF, and graphic image files into one PDF document, and the ability to redistill PDF files to create smaller files.

PStill for Mac OS X puts an easy to use, drag and drop interface on top of the PStill Conversion Engine, developed and enhanced by Frank Siegert for over 14 years. Users can drag in a PS, EPS, PDF, or image file, and drag out the PDF result. In addition, PStill’s EPS filter lets users view EPS as antialiased PDF in any Mac OS X application that supports filter services.

Stone Design CEO Andrew Stone notes, “Frank keeps improving the PStill engine and we provide the easy interface that Mac OS X users expect. Create PDF that will print and view anywhere!”

PStill, using the latest 1.605 engine, has new digital prepress features, including the ability to process spot colors and take over overprinting settings. It is also now possible to output 2, 4, and 8 pages onto one physical page for “N-up” printing.

PStill will also redistill PDF files, in many cases creating much smaller files. CEO Stone says, “OS X’s ability to print to PDF from any application is great, but sometimes the files are huge. PStill can redistill those files, often shrinking them to more manageable sizes. We typically see savings of 40-70%! Users can determine what DPI and compression they want for even smaller output file sizes, which is excellent for web distribution of documents.”

PStill 2.5 is a free upgrade to current PStill and Stone Studio owners, and is available online from the
Stone Store for $69. It is also included as part of Stone Studio™, Stone Design’s suite of Mac OS X graphics and productivity applications. A 30 day full-strength demo can be downloaded from Stone Design’s web site.
