We sense we stand on the bodies and souls of all
who have died by our governments’ “of the people,
by the people, for the people,” military war machine.
Even protesting the evils of war doesn’t salve our
conscience as we continue to shop Walmart and
Starbucks looking for cheap goods and trendy
caffeine. It is time to look through our “knowing
eye” at the clothes we buy, the chemicals we use in
our homes, on our yards, slather on our bodies and
even some food we eat as we drive our cars and sit
in traffic jams and all this supports this oil
economy and so, under our skin, we feel guilty.
Is that because feeling guilty is easier than a
different lifestyle?
How I long for the mythical Phoenix to appear NOW
in all it’s splendor, out of the ashes of these charred,
smoking gun, US “democratic” ideals and promises.
I plead for this symbol of rebirth and
transformation, to awaken anew my desire to let
my anger be transformed into passion for peace,
my disappointment into discernment of what I
believe,
my grief into compassion for myself and others,
my despair into hope of a better future,
|
| |
my fear into courage to speak out against injustice,
my frustration into patience
and my guilt into action for change,
because the view through my tear filled eyes leads
me to say that CHANGE we MUST
or we will collapse in on our proud selves, just like
those Tall Twin Tower symbols of our place
in the world collapsed our illusions while we
watched them fall.
If we just stand by with our heads in our fearful,
bloody hands, hiding our eyes from the truth of
“US”, we risk being caught in the JAWS
of this “steal” TRAP of our American dream turned
nightmare
and our only hope for relief will be to chew off,
with our teeth clinched in pain,
our own consciousness.
